Having learned from experience on its previous layout, mainline curves
on the new layout have a minimum radius of 36-inches and will also have
easements leading into the curves. Extreme care is being take when laying
of the curves to ensure that the radius remains constant throughout the
curve.
For the new layout, members are constructing the sub-roadbed using a
unique new spline method consisting of glued strips of 1/4-inch hardboard
on-edge. Small blocks of homasote down the center of the roadbed will
enable track to be temporarily nailed in place until it can be ballasted.
The unique nature of this roadbed and the angled profile of the outer-most
strips of hardboard means that cork roadbed will not be necessary.
